Dev-Track Instructions

As a Dev-Track student, you will need to begin your portfolio website in this course according to NMI policies. This section of the workbook will include all of the resources you will need to get started and that steps you need to take. Having not taken NMIX 4010/6010, it may be helpful to do additional review of HTML/CSS concepts. Freecodecamp.com is a great resource for completing one-off lessons on concepts you wish to review.

STEP ONE: Setting Up Domain & Hosting

Your first step is to get a domain name and hosting provider. I recommend using Reclaim Hosting as your hosting provider. There are step-by-step instructions for Reclaim Hosting in this section of the workbook.

STEP TWO: Connecting to Your Server

We recommend using Cyberduck as an FTP Client for connecting to your server. There are step-by-step instructions for Cyberduck in this section of the workbook.

STEP THREE: Submit Your Site for this Class

At this point you can go ahead and complete the steps in the section, How to Submit Assignments. Even if you have not actually added any content to your site yet, you can still complete all of these necessary steps.

STEP FOUR: Build Your Portfolio Website

At this point, everything is set up and ready to start building. You can spend the entire semester actually building your portfolio website. The deadline to complete this will be at the very end of this semester. You can build your site using any resources you would like. I personally recommend using a Bootstrap template as a starting point and redesigning your site from there. I have included links to Bootstrap lessons in this section of the workbook. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or would like any additional recommendations for portfolio website design.

As a reminder, in designing your portfolio website, you must follow all NMI Dossier guidelines.
