Twilight 3.0

This marks the third year that the NMI is working with Athens Twilight, and it continues to be an honor to collaborate with such a well-known and impactful event in the Athens community. As the 50th anniversary of Athens Twilight approaches, this project focuses on building upon previous work by highlighting something that has been largely overlooked: the event’s history. While Athens Twilight brings in riders and spectators from around the world each year, there is currently no central place where people can easily explore its story and understand its long-standing impact. This project aims to change that by creating a more engaging and accessible way to experience the legacy of Twilight.

To address this gap, we are developing a timeline-based history page for the year-round Twilight website that showcases key moments from the first race in 1980 through today. This digital archive will allow users to explore how the event has grown over time while recognizing the athletes and community that have made it what it is today. By organizing and presenting this content in a clear and interactive format, the project offers both new and returning audiences a way to better understand and appreciate the significance of Athens Twilight. The long-term vision is for this content to also serve as the foundation for a 50th anniversary history book, giving fans a lasting keepsake of the event.

In addition to the historical component, the project also focuses on improving the functionality and design of both the year-round and race weekend websites. Updates include stronger alignment with the brand guide, more visually engaging content, and features like a homepage countdown to race weekend. These improvements create a more modern, connected digital experience that reduces confusion between the two sites while building excitement leading up to the event. Together, these efforts offer users a clearer, more engaging way to connect with Athens Twilight past, present, and future.
