The work of two Spring 2026 certificate capstone teams caught media attention over the summer. Both teams contributed to Grow Back Augusta, a multidisciplinary collaboration between UGA and the Community Foundation for the Central Savannah River Area.
The goal: Develop a long-term recovery tool that empowers Augusta community members with information and resources to reforest the region in the wake of Hurricane Helene’s destruction in Fall 2024.
NMI students rose to the challenge and developed an augmented reality, web-based application and backend support for the Grow Back Project. Their incredible work was featured in news stories appearing in UGA Today and Online Athens.
