Destination Dawgs Design with the NMI

Last month, the NMI got the chance to design with Destination Dawgs students as part of their Grady Day. After hanging out with our friends at Grady Newsource and the Center for Advanced Computer-Human Ecosystems (CACHE), the students gathered in the NMI Lab for a dive into graphic design.

Using Adobe Express, the students “remixed” a template to tell us all about themselves. They used dynamic typography to display their interests and characteristics. They found just the right icons to represent their favorite foods. They switched up the color palette and textures. However, the clear favorite part of the project was creating their very own AI-generated cartoon self-portraits.

Destination Dawgs is a non-degree certificate program that supports students with intellectual disabilities between the ages of 18 and 25 who are transitioning to adulthood. Destination Dawgs have an opportunity to prepare for a career and independent living over the course of 5 semesters. The students participate in UGA courses, gain valuable job skills, build a social network, and earn a UGA Certificate in College and Career Readiness from the UGA Center of Continuing Education.

Huge thanks to the Destination Dawgs students and staff for their enthusiastic participation, to the Grady team who planned this special opportunity, and to Claire Jordan and Anthony Drag for guiding the NMI’s contributions!
