As always, the NMI had a busy but exciting summer. Although our fourth floor lab was empty, our instructors were hard at work teaching in less-traditional formats. John taught our largest ever online section of Introduction to New Media, NMIX 2020E, bringing over 100 students into the world of new media. Outside the NMI, both Megan and John taught a service-learning class for UGA’s Freshman College Summer Experience this July. Getting a jump on their experiential learning requirement, Megan’s class partnered with Books for Keeps to help prepare for their annual book sale fundraiser while John’s class partnered with Keep Athens Beautiful to help clear the Athens community of litter.
On top of summer classes, the NMI also went through a few changes. After four years of working for the NMI, Chris was promoted to the role of Academic Professional, and Dr. Taylor Cole Miller joined the team as the newest faculty member. Our graduate students were busy, too: the Emerging Media program graduated its first two masters students and opened the all new Emerging Media Design Lab.
But in the NMI we never stop moving, so we’ve got a lot in store for this fall. As always, we are busy preparing for SLAM and TEDxUGA, and this semester, we are also excited to help launch the inaugural Georgia Drone Summit.
