Performance Metrics

By Jason Coudriet

UX metrics are a set of quantitative data points used to measure, compare, and track the user experience of a website or app. They are vitally important for ensuring UX design decisions are made and evaluated using evidence rather than personal opinions.

Performance metrics are a subset of UX metrics. These data points are based on a user’s behavior, or performance, with a product — as opposed to what the user self-reports about a product.

When it comes to performance metrics, it’s important to, at the very least, scratch the surface of statistics. As researchers, we need to know how confident we are in our data. We have to be able to relay how our UX sample relates to the true population. Fortunately for us, there’s a really helpful website that does most of the calculations for us. Check out the Adjusted Wald calculator and task time calculator.
