The Design of Everyday Things

Opening doors wrong. Clicking the wrong button on apps. Not being able to fill out a website form quickly and easily. These are all examples of design errors.

As human beings, we make the assumption these kinds of errors are our fault. We’re just bad at technology/ we’re just not paying attention / insert other excuse here.

Well, Don Norman suggests that these kinds of errors aren’t your fault. They’re a product of bad design. Designers have a responsibility to ensure that products (of both the physical and digital variety) can be used easily. If you look around you, you’ll see bad design is everywhere. There’s whole subreddits dedicated to this topic.
