? Lecture
You can’t spell UI/UX without UI! This lecture is all about user interfaces; specifically, four key UI elements you’ll likely be adding into your prototypes later on: forms, buttons, icons, and menus.
While we’re just focusing on the micro-interactions of the user interface, such as the buttons users click on, the text they read, the entry fields, etc, any visual element, interaction, or animation is considered to be part of the larger UI ecosystem. All of these graphical features must be carefully and strategically designed. If you’re starting to get the sense that UI is an art form in and of itself, you’d be correct!
Mentioned in this lecture is Apple’s Design Resources. This (seriously awesome and useful) website contains XD templates, guides, and other resources to help you rapidly generate prototypes. While not required, I encourage you to explore these resources and make good use of them! Work smarter, not harder.
Lastly, while software changes rapidly, the foundational principles of how humans interact with technology evolve at a much, much slower rate. While I would love for you to master XD in this class, I would rather have you master UI and UX design-thinking. This will help you more easily adapt to any prototype software you encounter in the real world, whether that’s Xd, Figma, Sketch, or something else entirely.
