That’s a Wrap on Spring 2025 NMIXpo!

We wrapped up the Spring semester with a tech-tastic NMIXpo that included an Advisory Council meeting, SLAM, Emerge, graduation party, awards brunch, and so much more.

And before we settle into Summer semester, we would like to give one more round of applause to all of our New Media and Emerging Media students who debuted 28 Capstone projects for friends, family, and clients at SLAM and Emerge.

For a recap of their work, check out the teams’ project posters and trailers:

And the Award Goes to…

👏 This semester, we recognized two Certificate Capstone students for their hard work and positivity, and we announced our first-ever NMIcon—an award that honors an NMI faculty or staff member who goes above and beyond to serve the NMI and its mission.

Clate Award: Banibe Ebegbodi
The Clate Award celebrates determination in the face of challenges and recognizes individuals who embody the spirit of Clate, demonstrating remarkable fortitude in overcoming obstacles and a refusal to be deterred by setbacks. Congratulations, Bani!

Emuel Award: Isabel Toro
The Emuel Award recognizes students who not only demonstrate outstanding work but also contribute contagious positivity to their project, team, and the class as a whole, uplifting those around them with their kindness and skills. Congratulations, Isabel!

NMIcon: Kyla Sterling
A long time in the making and long overdue, the NMIcon award now recognizes all the ways that NMI faculty and staff go above and beyond to serve the NMI mission. The NMIcon will be awarded annually to the team member that demonstrates excellence in one or more of the following areas: positively influence the educational and professional pursuits of New Media and Emerging Media students, forge connections between the NMI and industry partners, and nurture new relationships across campus and the community.

Nominations were collected from students, peers, and NMI Advisory Council members and we are excited to recognize Kyla Sterling as the first NMIcon.

Kyla has been with the NMI since 2020 and originally served as the New Media Certificate Faculty Advisor. She transitioned to serve as the Emerging Media Online Faculty Advisor and eventually also took over leadership of the residential EM program, Double Dawgs, and TEDxUGA Engagement efforts. Because of her endless passion for her programs and students, Kyla has enhanced the EM and TEDxUGA experience more than we can express. We can’t think of anyone more deserving of this inaugural award. Congratulations, Kyla!

Thank you, Fundsters!

🫶 We also introduced the newest members of our Fundster Fam! These students have stepped up to help the NMI to continue making it work better. Please join us in thanking Bipasha Bipin, Sophie Brewer, Samira Jafari, Isabella Martinez, Kalia Edmonds, Dia Patel, Amanda Qubty, Nina Rachal, Sarah Rogers, Katie Smith, Erica Techo, Hope Thornton, and McKenzie Todd. We couldn’t do it without you!

So, that’s a wrap on another amazing NMIXpo! What a great way to end a great year!
