Chick-fil-AR

Chick-fil-a is well-known for their generous giveaways of food and its emphasis on customer service. They earn $4.4M in sales annually, which is over 3 times as much as Mcdonald’s so there’s an applied science behind the giveaways that build deep customer loyalty and satisfaction. Additionally, they’ve recently begun shifting their image to take on a digital-first approach to the quick-service restaurant business, from the Chick-fil-A One app to streamlining logistics for the drive-thru.

We wanted to add value to the Chick-fil-A brand and give our technology a greater purpose by creating a use case for USDZ. USDZ, or Universal Scene Description Zip File, is one of the latest breakthroughs in AR technology that was recently announced at an Apple keynote earlier this year. The key differentiator of USDZ amongst other attempts at AR is that USDZ files are shareable, easily accessible, and don’t require an aid such as an app to view them.

Our team photographed Chick-fil-A objects that are already given out as rewards, such as a box of nuggets, and transferred those images into 3D models. Those USDZ files were made accessible to our audience through unique QR codes, and those codes are included in rewards cards that can be given out at Chick-fil-A sponsored events such as the Chick-fil-A Kick-off game and the Peach Bowl. Intended to be used for both in-store and out-of-store experiences, we believe this technology would generate a lot of buzz for their restaurants by encouraging user-generated content. Also, Chick-fil-A would have a competitive advantage against its competitors for being one of the first big brands to adopt this emerging technology.
