ARound the World
Many students study abroad during their time at UGA. Whether it be for a semester, summer or winter program, UGA StudyAway allows students to experience a trip of a lifetime. Throughout UGA’s programs, students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in various cultures, learn new languages, and travel independently. Oftentimes, students find themselves taking time out of their travels to research landmarks, architectures and unfamiliar locations. To prevent wasting time on Google, we have created a service that acts as an interactive learning tool for students studying abroad.
The New Media Capstone focuses on building new media solutions that address specific problems. For our semester-long project, our team was tasked with creating a digital storytelling product. When discussing potential ideas, the topic of studying abroad and various inconveniences was proposed. Our goal is to help enhance the study abroad experience for UGA students.
We have created a service that allows students to gain more knowledge on historical landmarks through an augmented reality platform. With the use of Adobe Aero, students are able to scan a site specific QR code that provides them with a virtual tour that incorporates interactive learning. In addition to our service, we have developed a website that can be utilized for further information regarding UGA StudyAway programs, downloadable and printable site maps, and contact information. Our hope is that “ARound the World” allows students to enjoy their endeavors and avoid spending time on Google.
