If you can’t tell, we take service-learning seriously at the NMI. With Grady’s Emerging Media Masters program growing in popularity, Megan recognized an opportunity to integrate service-learning into the young program and empower graduate students to build digital products that effectively serve their community. After pitching her idea in a competitive applicant pool, we’re thrilled to report that Megan was recently announced as a 2018-2019 Service-Learning Fellow by the Office of Service-Learning. Through this experience, Megan will learn alongside an interdisciplinary cohort of faculty peers to better understand and deploy service-learning best practices.

While this fellowship will better position Megan as a service-learning instructor, she is no stranger to the approach. Last summer, she taught a Freshman College Summer Experience class that volunteered with the local Athens literacy nonprofit Books for Keeps, and she plans to continue this fantastic partnership with her new batch of freshman this coming summer. With John and Chris also teaching in Freshman College, we’re seeking additional service partners.
