Team SAFE

In today’s world of new technologies and AI, scammers are stepping up their game, creating the most believable fake websites, emails, and phone calls. Targeting older adults, they might pose as a trusted bank employee, a concerned grandkid, or a convincing Medicare representative. This project, in collaboration with Seraph Secure and the UGA CARE Center, transforms scam awareness into something clear, approachable, and actually enjoyable for older adults. Straying from confusing tech talk or fear tactics, it delivers simple tips and tricks that can help users recognize scams almost like a second language.

Most current scam awareness resources feel like they were written for cybersecurity experts, not real people. So, this project introduces a one-pager website that feels like a helpful, step-by-step guide. Scrolling through the pages, users can easily navigate through common scam setups, information on remote access control, and the SAFE defense method, a memorable acronym that reinforces scam avoidance strategies. To extend beyond the screen, the project also offers physical resources, including a brochure, stickers, and a fridge magnet, for users to reference as key reminders in their day-to-day life.

At the end of the day, these products aren’t aimed to just help users avoid scams, but also to build confidence. They are about developing that instinct to know when something feels off and know how to take further action. They are about empowering older adults to take back control from scammers and know how to protect their personal and financial information. By making scam awareness easy, memorable, and even a little entertaining, this project will help older adults stay smart and stay SAFE.
