The NMI’s Lauren Baggett took part in the Georgia Scholastic Press Association (GSPA)’s annual conference on October 24, presenting to young journalists on the opportunities and pitfalls of integrating AI into their work.
Lauren provided a brief overview of generative AI and discussed some of the existing AI tools reporters and content creators can use to brainstorm, refine, and amplify news stories for digital platforms. Later, the group dug into the ethical issues journalists might face when using AI to support their writing.
Over 800 high school students from across the state of Georgia attended. The conference is the marquee event for GSPA, which aims to “help middle school and high school publications progress by providing networking and skill development opportunities.”
