Throughout your academic journey, you\u2019ll create many things you want to show off to the world. As you earn your New Media Certificate, you\u2019ll develop the skills to create a digital portfolio to do so. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your digital portfolio will consist of two parts:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. A <\/span>Public Portfolio<\/b>, to be shared with everyone from future employers to your parents. Your Public Portfolio will include anything and everything you choose to feature: work from all your academic endeavors, internships, freelance work, personal side projects, whatever you\u2019d like. We hope you choose to feature some of your work from the New Media Institute here, but there\u2019s no requirement to do so.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. An <\/span>NMI Portfolio<\/b>, to be shared primarily with NMI faculty. Your NMI Portfolio serves two purposes. First, creating it helps you develop a clear, concise narrative of your work earning the New Media Certificate\u2014incredibly helpful for job interviews and the like. Second, your NMI Portfolio will help the NMI faculty and Advisory Council understand, assess, and improve the experience we offer NMI students. All NMI Portfolios will reside in a consistent location on each student\u2019s server (more on that later), and it\u2019s up to you whether or not to feature it publicly.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Both portfolios will reside on your own personal website, which you\u2019ll create in your certificate production course (NMIX 4110, NMIX 4310, NMIX 5110). Therefore, you must maintain your own personal website (domain registration and hosting, likely through Reclaim Hosting) until you complete your New Media Certificate.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Public Portfolio details<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Your Public Portfolio will be hosted at the root of your domain (example: yoursite.com). You\u2019ll begin creating your Public Portfolio in your first certificate production course, and you\u2019ll submit the URL for final evaluation while enrolled in NMIX 4410: New Media Capstone.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Your Public Portfolio will be evaluated against its intended purpose: presenting your work to a professional audience. Therefore, our evaluation will focus on how effectively you communicate your skills and professional aspirations through the medium of a modern responsive website.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    NMI Portfolio: Required Content + Classes<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Section 1: New Media Certificate Summary<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Your New Media Certificate summary will be an executive summary of your work\u2014a clear, concise narrative of your Certificate journey. This should serve as a digital response to an interview question asking, \u201cTell me about earning the New Media Certificate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Do not simply list or describe the courses you\u2019ve taken or the projects you\u2019ve completed. Instead, focus on crafting a narrative of what you, as a specific, individual human being, have gained by earning the New Media Certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Note for Emerging Media students<\/strong>: swap New Media Certificate for Emerging Media Masters here! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Note: Obviously I realize you are at the beginning of your journey at this point! Your Certificate Summary should just be a paragraph or two about what you've learned up until this point! You can add to it as you move through your course of study! <\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Section 2: Course Summaries: <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    During your New Media Certificate journey, you\u2019ll complete a variety of courses, each with different learning outcomes. Each of these courses plays a role in the development of your professional toolkit and in the creation and development of your New Media Capstone Project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A Course Summary is required for each upper-level New Media Certificate course you complete1<\/a>. This clear, concise narrative should be supported with evidence and should address the following prompts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
