The world&#8217;s best organizations carefully design every element of these experiences to create a cohesive, compelling whole that is far greater than the sum of its parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This class will explore the ethics, principles, and tools of <em>digital customer experience design<\/em>, or CX.<a href=\"#footnote-1-129\" id=\"note-1-129\" rel=\"footnote\">1<\/a><a href=\"#footnote-2-129\" id=\"note-2-129\" rel=\"footnote\">2<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Learning Outcomes<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>By the end of the semester, you&#8217;ll be able to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Define a considered code of ethics for designing customer experiences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Employ principles of human\/user-centered design to customer experiences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analyze customers&#8217; experiences using various frameworks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improve customer experiences through various tools such as detailed journey mapping<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Topical Outline<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>CX design ethics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Principles of CX design<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CX design methodologies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CX usability testing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Psychology of CX design<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copywriting for CX design<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CX design journey mapping<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CX design prototyping<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Instructor philosophy<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>More than being here to help you learn the subject material, I\u2019m here to help you figure out how what we&#8217;re learning applies to your academic and professional goals. I think the things we\u2019re talking about in class are incredibly cool, exciting, and worthy of your time, thought, and energy. When you finish the class, you\u2019ll have developed a really solid working knowledge of the field <em>and&nbsp;<\/em>know where and how to further your own knowledge and expertise. We\u2019re going to have a lot of fun, but I also expect you to work hard. Work hard at the assignments, sure, but more than that, work hard at understanding the stuff we\u2019re talking about, why it matters, and what you can do with it\u2014that\u2019s what really matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Class Culture<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;ll continually discuss the attitudes and practices that each of you, individually, will need to cultivate to succeed in this class. However, it\u2019s also worth taking some time at the outset to talk about what we all should expect from each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In short, we\u2019ll work to cultivate an atmosphere of curiosity, fun, and professionalism. However, it\u2019s highly encouraged (and, hopefully, fun!), and I\u2019d strongly suggest that if you\u2019re unable to attend, you make time to watch the class recordings shared via Slack.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The only required synchronous meetings are the three tutorials, for which you\u2019ll submit your availability at the start of the course.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Make-up work<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You are expected to complete and turn in your work by the due date, and <strong>late work is accepted only at the discretion of the instructor<\/strong>. If late work is accepted, the <strong>minimum&nbsp;<\/strong>penalty for the first assignment you turn in late is 10% of its total value per day late (ex: 10-point exam turned in two days late will be penalized a minimum of 2 points). After your first late assignment, each subsequent late assignment will be penalized a <strong>minimum&nbsp;<\/strong>of 20% of its total value per day (ex: 10-point exam turned in two days late will be penalized a minimum of 4 points).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Office Hours<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to being available through Slack and Zoom throughout the week, we&#8217;ll also hold open office hours on Fridays from 1-2pm EST. You\u2019re always welcome to come by and see me with any questions, concerns, or just to say hi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Access policy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a disability and require accommodations, please see me after class or make an appointment during office hours. If there is something we can do to make the class more hospitable, please let us know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Honor Code and <b>Academic Honesty<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As a University of Georgia Student, you have agreed to abide by the University\u2019s<br>academic honesty policy, \u201cA Culture of Honesty\u201d, and the Student Honor Code (\u201cI will be academically honest in all of my academic work and will not tolerate acad-<br>emic dishonesty of others.\u201d). All academic work must meet the standards de-<br>scribed in \u201cA Culture of Honesty\u201d found at <a href=\"https:\/\/honesty.uga.edu\">honesty.uga.edu<\/a>. Lack of knowledge of the academic honesty policy is not a reasonable explanation for a violation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read the entire policy online, but the short story is: don\u2019t cheat\u2014the punishments<br>for violations of the Academic Honesty Policy are severe. You are expected to do<br>your own work and to report individuals who do not do their own work. As nearly<br>all of the class materials and assignments are online, you may find the temptation to cheat (cheating includes unauthorized sharing of class materials, using unau-<br>thorized sources during assessments, and more\u2014seriously, read thisnow to get a full sense of what all constitutes academic dishonesty) even greater than usual. Resist that temptation. Questions related to course assignments and the acade-<br>mic honesty policy should be directed to the instructor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"new-media-institute-policies\">New Media Institute Policies<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>New Media Institute students are responsible for knowing and abiding by all NMI policies. You agreed to these policies upon committing to Emerging Media and will be held accountable for following them. Through your NMI classes, you\u2019ll develop and build on the skills to create a digital portfolio to do so. Just be certain to check that your URLs are up-to-date and functional.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"slack-1\">Slack<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The NMI uses Slack for all communication, from courses to events to requirements to everything in between. Students&nbsp;<strong>must<\/strong>&nbsp;join the NMI workspace (<a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/uganmi\">bit.ly\/uganmi<\/a>) and appropriate channels each semester, before the end of drop\/add. Other names include experience design, customer experience, computational experience, and service design.
