{"id":86,"date":"2016-08-10T16:39:19","date_gmt":"2016-08-10T20:39:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/capstone.local\/?page_id=86"},"modified":"2016-08-10T16:39:19","modified_gmt":"2016-08-10T20:39:19","slug":"stage-presentations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/nmi.cool\/capstone\/stage-presentations\/","title":{"rendered":"Stage Presentations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>5 Points<\/em><\/p>\n<p>An extremely engaging 5-minute presentation of your project to a lay audience.<\/p>\n<p>Key requirements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Explain your client \/ technology \/ project to an audience that knows next to nothing about any of them<\/li>\n<li>Communicate emotion, not just knowledge. Your primary mission isn&#8217;t to tell the audience about\u00a0your work. It&#8217;s to help them understand\u00a0<em>why they should care about \/ be interested in:<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>who your client is<\/li>\n<li>the problem you were asked to solve<\/li>\n<li>why the technology you&#8217;re working with is worth learning about<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Your presentation should ooze quality. It should be abundantly clear that you:\n<ul>\n<li>Sweated the details of your slides. <a href=\"#footnote-1-86\" id=\"note-1-86\" rel=\"footnote\">1<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Rehearsed this thing within an inch of its life. <a href=\"#footnote-2-86\" id=\"note-2-86\" rel=\"footnote\">2<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In terms of content, the only requirements are to explain and demonstrate your project. That&#8217;s it. The rest is completely up to you.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re feeling stuck, paths taken by previous capstone groups include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A super-polished traditional tech keynote.<\/li>\n<li>Audience interaction (ask questions, ask them to imagine things, ask them to raise hands if they&#8217;ve&#8230;, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Small bits of drama \/ comedy (if you have the chops to pull this off; if in doubt, err on the side of caution)<\/li>\n<li>Small bits of bespoke prerecorded video<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"footnotes\"><hr \/><ol><li id=\"footnote-1-86\" class=\"footnote\"><p>What does this look like? A lot of things: not just using stock templates (especially Google Slides), minimal text per slide, almost always one large image per slide (vs. multiple small images on a single slide), using modern devices for screenshots, etc., following your project&#8217;s style guide to a T., etc., etc., etc.<a href=\"#note-1-86\" class=\"footnote-return\">&#8617;<\/a><\/p><\/li><!--\/#footnote-1.footnote--><li id=\"footnote-2-86\" class=\"footnote\"><p> Specifically: engaging opening, smooth transitions, absolutely zero reading from slides, clear, defined ending, and absolute confidence in your technology (which includes having a backup plan for if your technology fails).<a href=\"#note-2-86\" class=\"footnote-return\">&#8617;<\/a><\/p><\/li><!--\/#footnote-2.footnote--><\/ol><\/div><!--\/#footnotes-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>5 Points An extremely engaging 5-minute presentation of your project to a lay audience.
