A while back, I wrote a recommendation for a student who took this course in Spring 2017. The first thing I did was re-visit the video explanation of her final project. At that point, it became much easier to write a good recommendation for her because I suddenly remembered what a nice final project she had produced 3 years before.<\/p>\n<p>Stretch yourself. Don&#8217;t just create an app that mimics something that we have already learned. Draw on that prior learning, but add something extra that you have to learn before you can use it.<\/p>\n<h2>Rubric<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Ambition<\/strong>. The goal of this project is for you\u00a0to push yourself to build something that goes just a bit\u2014maybe 15-25%\u2014beyond what\u2019s feels definitely doable.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Polish<\/strong>. Your app should look good. Maybe not great, but at least make an effort to keep it from being ugly.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Usability<\/strong>. Your app should have an interface that is easy to use and makes sense to the average user.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><b>Video<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Plan on approximately 2-3 minutes for your presentation.<\/li>\n<li>The goal is not to give a comprehensive tour of every single part of your app. Instead, aim for the following breakdown:\n<ul>\n<li>A brief (10-20 second) refresher on topic \/ goals<\/li>\n<li>60-120 seconds giving a guided tour of a few (2-4) highlights from your app. These could be design features you\u2019re proud of, tricky technical challenges you overcame, etc.<\/li>\n<li>30-60 seconds or so reflecting on learnings from this project.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>This isn\u2019t a public speaking course, so don\u2019t feel stressed out about memorizing what you\u2019re going to say word-for-word.
